*****Tanguay’s Genealogical Dictionary*****

A major resource for Quebec genealogical research is the Dictionnaire Genealogique des familles Canadiennes/Genealogical Dictionary of French-Canadian Families.  This resource is a 7 volume dictionary compiled and written by Roman Catholic priest, Cyprien Tanguay.  The records date as far back as the late 1500’s to about 1800. The volumes can be viewed on-line through the Bibliotheque et Archives du Quebec website. http://bibnum2.banq.qc.ca/bna/dicoGenealogie/

Finding articles in genealogy journals

There are a number of genealogy journals in the collection of research materials at the Guilderland Public Library.  You might wonder - how can I find out what is in them that might be of help to me in my research?

Most of these journals are not online in full-text form, but there are online indexes where you can search for the articles that might be of interest.  If you search the online index and find the title of an article that appears in any of our journals, you've hit the jackpot!  You can come to the library to read or copy the article.  If you find an article that is not in our collection, it can still be requested using Interlibrary Loan from your home library.

Below is a list of the genealogy journals at the Guilderland Public Library that were formerly at the Cohoes Public Library courtesy of the Fédération Franco-Américaine du NY.  The journal titles have been tagged with the letter P if they are in the PERiodical Source Index, so you'll know which articles you can find here.

If you would like assistance searching, I'll be glad to help you.  Call me at 456-2400 ext 2 and ask for me by name, Margaret Lanoue.  Starting in January 2017, I should be available Tuesdays and Thursdays most weeks.
Journals and Newsletters - incomplete runs, but interesting articles
Note:  To find the contents of the journals you can search in a database called  PERiodial Source Index (PERSI) available from free via:
